Position Title: Regional Nutrition Officer

Reporting to: Assistant Secretary General
 
Job Location: West Kenya, Nairobi & Lower Eastern, North Eastern , Coast, Upper Eastern & Central, and South &North Rift Valley
 
Overall Purpose
 
Responsible to the Assistant Secretary General working closely with the Nutrition Advisor, for effective planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating community-based nutrition programmes to address persistently high levels of acute and chronic malnutrition, support integration of nutrition actions in emergency preparedness and response, food and livelihood security as well as support generation of knowledge and documentation of best practices in the field of public health nutrition.

The strategy is to develop and deliver an integrated nutrition resilience framework for intervention execution focusing on partnerships, advocacy, behaviour and attitude change manifested in the application of optimal nutrition practices across the life cycle prior to, during and after emergencies.

Summary of Job Description:
 
Program Management and Reporting: Develop region specific integration models that allow for systematic and coordinated in- cooperation of nutrition in project formulation, implementation, reporting/ documenting, monitoring and evaluation across all KRCS disaster management and long term programmes.
 
Human Resource Management: Supervise, monitor nutrition project staff performance, offer mentorship, support staff in preparation of their performance objectives and determine personnel needs for field-level nutrition activities
 
Grants Management: Ensure adherence to budgets by reviewing expenditures, spending patterns, preparing cash forecasts based on planned activities, and ensure tracking and reporting on nutrition supplies.
 
Partnerships and Networking: Map out stakeholders in the public and private sectors in each of the regions towards supporting advocacy efforts aimed at scaling up nutrition in the regions, Support development of county emergency nutrition preparedness plans and action plans and attend partnership meetings and forums at regional level

Key Competencies
 
Required Qualifications:
  • BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent qualifications
  • Knowledge of national and international minimum standards in health program service delivery (MOH, SPHERE, WHO standards)
  • Practical experience in planning, implementation and management of public health nutrition programmes
  • Proven practical experience in partnership engagement and management
  • Previous proposal development experience (including log frames), and M&E
  • Computer literacy with possible advanced word processing, spread sheet, and relevant health software skills ( ENA for SMART, SPSS ) Additional training in IMAM and IYCF is a requirement
Required Experience & Competencies:
  • At least 3-4 years’ experience working in complex, multifaceted, health and nutrition program with an added advantage for candidates with emergency response experience
  • Previous recruitment, performance monitoring and team training experience
  • Previous experience in documentation of lessons learnt, as well conducting health and nutrition surveys and ability to work under pressure.

Nutrition Officer Job in Mandera

Position: Nutrition Officer - Mandera
 
Overall Responsibility
 
Under the supervision of Nutrition Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for implementation of nutrition projects in designated districts through collaboration with MoH staff. 

The officer will facilitate good practice and ensure compliance to applicable implementation methodologies - in particular as they relate to MOH guidelines, Islamic Relief’s mandate and the donors interest.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support provision of comprehensive and quality High Impact Nutrition Interventions (HINI).
  • Support capacity building and OJT for MOH staff and CHWs.
  • The Nutrition Officer will contribute in the development of training curriculum, tools and facilitate or co-facilitate nutrition related trainings e.g. IMAM, IYCF.
  • Support the systematic delivery of Health and Nutrition education messages to the community.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor the Nutrition interventions at district/county level in close collaboration with the ministry of health staff and other partners in the area.
  • Ensure proper outreach sites selection and avoid any over lapping with other humanitarian actors.
  • Monitor and review nutrition supplies and equipments movements such as deliveries, storage, transport and utilization at the site level.
  • Represent IR in nutrition coordination meetings with INGOs, CBOs, UN and the local authority.
  • Coordinate nutrition meetings within IR and participate in project monitoring, review and evaluation.
  • Participate in joint monitoring and evaluation with MOH and other Nutrition stakeholders in the district/ County.
  • Preparation of project reports to MOH, donors and other stakeholders.
Experience/ Qualification
  • Degree in Nutrition or other related field.
  • At least 2years experience within an INGO in implementing HINI especially in ASAL areas.
  • Proven analytical, communication/ negotiation skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Experience in report writing and excellent computer skills.
  • Knowledge on SMART and other nutrition surveillance methods will be an added advantage.

Sous Chef
The Sous Chef is responsible for the operations and supervision of the kitchen and kitchen staff.

Main responsibilities include:
  • Planning, directing and supervising the activities of kitchen staff and providing an efficient and cost effective food service to the establishment
  • Responsible for creating menus and ensuring that all menus are constantly updated, paying special attention to seasonal availability
  • Implements correct procedures for food receiving and storage, food handling, preparation and distribution, kitchen sanitation and safety, equipment operation and cleaning
  • Maintains food inventory control systems and requisitions and determines delivery dates for food and supplies from storage areas to meet daily menu requirements
  • Ensures that sanitation, housekeeping and safety standards meet the requirements of local and statutory rules and regulations
  • Supervises food production to ensure the quality and quantity  control of menu items and that proper food handling techniques are followed at all times as well as checking  food service for portion control, serving temperatures, food quality and sanitary procedures
  • Ensures all staff are trained and adhere to prescribed techniques and standards
Desired Skills / Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in culinary degree or related field or a combination of relevant education and experience
  • At least 5 years of industry and culinary management experience.

Cooks

The Cook is responsible for the daily preparation of food items. Other key responsibilities include:
  • Participate in the preparation and cooking and serving of food items in accordance with specified menus and section requirements as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
  • Follows recipes, presentation specifications and measure out correct quantities to be cooked and size of portions to be served, taking into account orders placed.
  • Restocks all items as needed throughout the shift, check quantity and quality of stock received and notify stores department of deficiencies.
  • Oversee washing and cleaning of floors, crockery, utensils, work surfaces and other kitchens equipment to ensure that the necessary hygiene and health and safety standards are maintained in the kitchen and restaurant as appropriate.
Desired Skills / Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Culinary Arts or similar qualification, or prior progressive, relevant experience
  • 2 to 5 years experience in a similar role in the kitchen department
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Team player and displays problem solving abilities, be self motivated and organized
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
Waiter

The key duties include:
  • Preparation of the restaurant, including all necessary mis-en-place for service,
  • Offering service to customers in a professional, efficient and courteous manner.
Desired Qualifications / Competencies
  • Diploma in Food & Beverage Service or related qualification
  • Experience in a similar role in the restaurant or banqueting department of a large hotel or resort.

Kitchen Steward 

This role is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of agreed designated areas, in accordance with laid-down procedures, morning/evening routines and hygiene requirements.  

Also inspects kitchens, workrooms, and equipment for cleanliness and order, take inventories of china, silverware, and glassware.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Logistics Assistant in Berbera and the overall supervision of Logistics Officer Berbera Sub-Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Receive and dispatch food and non-food items as per supporting documents;
  • Maintain clean and pest-free storing conditions; detect any infestation of goods while on trucks and inside warehouse and arrange fumigation;
  • Deliver goods on request against official and approved documentation i.e. Landside Transport Instructions (LTIs);
  • Supervise loading and off-loading of food and non-food items and report any discrepancies;
  • Report on the quality and quantity of the food and non-food items;

Save the Children Nutrition Coordinator Job in Nairobi Kenya

Title: Nutrition Coordinator
 
Reports to: Area Representative (South Somalia) (Regular liaison with Nutrition Advisor and Deputy Nutrition Advisor on Technical aspects)

Location: Nairobi with regular visits to South Somalia
 
General Description
 
The Nutrition Coordinator will have the stated purpose of leading the nutrition team for South Somalia.
 
The Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for the effective design, implementation and coordination of
activities associated with the Save the Children Somalia / Somaliland nutrition interventions in South
Somalia. 

S/He is responsible for leading the design of the interventions, developing work plans; coordinating with partners in peer programs locally & regionally; stimulating & identifying innovative ideas amongst the team that will meet the project goals; establish best practices; produce reports; attend regular management meetings both in-house and cluster level; coordinating with other SCiSOM technical leads and relevant Humanitarian actors; and managing the local team as applicable (direct implementation / implementation through local partners).


Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Program Design and Management
  • Lead the design and work plan development of the identified interventions
  • Lead the charge in brainstorming innovative new ideas and stimulating such thinking amongst the SS nutrition team
  • Generate quality monthly and quarterly reports on progress and analysis of program results and accomplishments.
  • Report on lessons learned from failed interventions identified as innovative in the design stage
  • Ensure that a holistic & community driven approach to the interventions is employed
  • Ensure that interventions are closely coordinated with other SC programs (WASH, FSL, Education and Health).
2. Coordination of Nutrition Activities
  • Monitor, guide and support the work of the Field Managers and other members of the Nutrition team for quality programming.
  • Conduct regular visits to field sites security allowing to monitor implementation of activities and work with core staff in developing solutions to problems that may arise.
  • Maintain regular communication with Nutrition staff in the field, Nutrition Advisor and SS management.
  • Receive regular and timely reports from Field Managers, and take appropriate action issues raised.
  • Facilitate team work and problem solving skills.
  • Carry out work with respect to SC security concerns, protocols and established policy.
  • Protect all staff and beneficiaries from any form of exploitation including sexually exploitative relationships.
3. Budget and Grants Management
  • Plan, Monitor and review program expenditure on monthly, quarterly & annually
  • Track and report on program indicators at both national and field levels to ensure that program implementation meets donor requirements and SC internal control procedures and that program deliverables are met
4. Record Keeping/Reporting
  • Develop M&E best practices and metrics in collaboration with the M&E team
  • Oversee the establishment of an efficient and effective system for recording and reporting on program activities, overall statistics and materials ordering, distribution and use.
  • Ensure program data is updated accordingly and information used for learning
  • Ensure nutrition database and timely and accurate analysis of the information.
5. Training
  • Lead Nutrition core staff in identifying training needs and developing capacity building and training programs and packages required
  • Participate in the conduct of formal and informal training sessions/seminars and capacity building activities as appropriate.
  • Lead the team to develop and execute appropriate training and capacity building measures to support community structures and partners.
6. Liaison
  • Communicate and meet with the relevant regional and local team members associated Nutrition activities in SS
  • Coordinate with the relevant actors such as local authorities, agencies, national and international NGOs, donors, community leaders and other beneficiaries to further the work of the SC Nutrition program.
  • Participate in discussions with relevant stakeholders to familiarize them with the respective nutrition projects and ensure understanding, cooperation and backing from the start.
  • Attend other key meetings that may impact on SC nutrition program

Essential
  • Health / Public Health / Nutrition BSc or equivalent
  • Substantial emergency nutrition experience of (2-4 years) including the design and implementation of feeding programs and their analysis and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating CTC programmes
  • Experience in conducting nutrition assessments (survey design, implementation and analysis using the SMART method and package, an ability to include sound causal analysis) and an understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems.
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach national staff.
  • Experience and ability to represent Save the Children's nutrition work in external meetings.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions.
  • Demonstrable ability at report writing and excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working safely in hostile and insecure environments
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic personality, commitment to understanding and improving the lives of children in an emergency context

The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children or young people and, in the overseas context all posts are considered to be level 3 posts in view of potential situations which may allow expatriates unsupervised access to vulnerable children and young people.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Nutrition and overall supervision of the Head Programme, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
 
Assist the Head of Nutrition in programme planning and design:
  • Review proposals to ensure technical compliance with WFP/nutrition cluster guidelines and policies;
  • Assist with analysing gaps in programme coverage, identify potential partners and liaise with them to increase coverage and minimize overlap;
  • Stay up to date with other agencies interventions in nutrition or related fields to ensure sound integration of WFP supported projects; Participate in field assessment missions
  • Participate in the design and implementation of operational research activities.
Advise technically AoRs, partners, and other units in the country office on nutrition programme implementation:
  • Review monthly distribution plan in a timely manner;
  • Review weekly and monthly reports and provide feedback on options to tackle key issues;
  • Assist in the process of preparing agreements, addendums, and other documents related to nutrition;
  • Liaise with partners and sub-offices to resolve issues and clarify or obtain additional information;
  • Undertake to ensure implementation procedures adhere to WFP guidelines.
Participate in the capacity building of WFP staff and partners to implement nutrition interventions:
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a training work plan for WFP staff and partners in nutrition;
  • Prepare and update of training material, guidelines, information-communication-education (IEC) material, and implementation tools;
  • Organize and assist in facilitating trainings and workshops in the field as well as in Nairobi in collaboration with other units and SO staff.
Assist the Head of Nutrition in representation and coordination work:
  • Represent WFP at nutrition or food aid cluster meetings and other stakeholders/partners meetings when required
  • Participate in the production of reports, documents and communication papers
  • Maintain close working relationship with other stakeholders in the nutrition sector.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Education: University degree and/or equivalent experience with emphasis in one or more of the following disciplines: human nutrition, public health or a field relevant to international development assistance.
 
Experience: At least one year of postgraduate professional experience in health or nutrition programming in emergencies with progressive experience.
 
Knowledge: Training and/or experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and at least one other standard statistical software package for nutrition surveys (ENA, Anthro, Epilnfo).General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration.
 
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.
 
Desirable skills: Knowledge of Somali language and of general statistical packages (STATA, SPSS, SAS, etc.) will be added advantage.

1. Assistant Electrical Engineer

Reporting to Assistant Manager (Electrical)

Key Result Areas:

  • Manage maintenance schedules for all electrical equipment.

  • Maintain records for all electrical breakdowns and precise diagnosis and interventions.

3. Civil Supervisor

Reporting to Assistant Civil Engineer

Key Result Areas:

  • Assist the Civil Engineer in project formulation and implementation.
  • Plan and supervise maintenance of existing Company buildings and infrastructure.

Job specification

  • Must be between 28 and 35 years of age.
  • Holders of Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a busy manufacturing firm.
  • Computer skills in Auto and Arch cad will have an added advantage.

4. Electrical Technicians

Reporting to Electrical Foreman

Key Result Area:

  • Maintenance and servicing of electrical machines/equipment.
  • Maintenance and servicing of motors, UPS,VCDs etc
  • Trouble shooting of electrical circuits and carrying out repairs.
  • Responsible for electrical plant operations during shifts.

Job specification

  • Must be between 25 to 30 years of age.
  • Holders of Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a busy manufacturing firm.

5. Assistant Security Officer (Re-advertisement)

Reporting to: Security Officer

Key Result Areas:

  • Supervision of in-house and contracted security services.
  • Liaison with external security agencies for preventive action.
  • Assists in investigations and prosecutions.
  • Reporting to Security Officer

Job specification

  • Must be between 28 to 35 years of age.
  • Minimum KCSE C plain.
  • Minimum Diploma in Security Management.
  • Must served for at least 5 years in the rank of corporal and above in uniformed service. Those below this rank will not be considered.
  • Clean certificate of discharge.
  • Valid certificate of good conduct.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.

6. Weighbridge Operator

Reporting to: Warehouse Supervisor

Key Result Areas:

  • Taking weights of incoming and outgoing products.
  • Assists in the transfer of finished products from production to warehouse.
  • Inventory control of raw materials and finished products.

Job specification:

  • Between 25-30 years of age.
  • KCSE mean grade C plain.
  • Minimum Certificate in Purchasing & Supply or Business Management.
  • Minimum one year’s relevant experience in purchasing and logistics in a busy organization.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
