UNDP Kenya would like to recruit a Capacity Building Specialist (National Project Professional Officer Category, Grade SB-5) for the Civil Society Democratic Governance Facility (CSDG) Amkeni waKenya.
Background

The Amkeni waKenya Programme was launched by UNDP in July 2008 as the Civil Society Democratic Governance Facility (CSDG). The overall objectives of Amkeni Wakenya are to enable citizens to benefit politically, socially and
economically from a more accountable, just, transparent and democratic society that upholds the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and to support civic engagement which empowers all people to influence public policies, through their civil society organizations at all levels.

Amkeni Wakenya’s programmes are open to Kenyan civil society organizations and institutions working in the democratic governance sector.
Position Information
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Programme Manager, the Capacity Building Specialist provides technical support to all activities supported and undertaken by the Amkeni Wakenya Programme Management Unit (PMU), including technical support to CSOs.
He/She is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Amkeni Wakenya with other stakeholders including other
democratic governance facilities on capacity building for civil society.

The Capacity Building Specialist also ensures accountability, provides oversight and coordination of capacity building initiatives of the Amkeni Wakenya according to UNDP policies and procedures. The Capacity Building Specialist advises a team of international and national consultants, PMU project and support staff and maintains a network with colleagues from UNDP, the democratic governance donor group, government, multilateral and bilateral donors and civil society.
Qualifications
- At least a Masters Degree in Law, Political Science, Human Rights, Social Science, International Relations, Development Studies or other related field.
Experience
- At least 5 years working experience at senior level in governance programmes or management experience.
- Experience working with the UN or an International development organization or donor agency is an added advantage.
- Sound knowledge of and experience in management and implementation of development programmes, involving civil society and capacity building.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in coordinating capacity development and or organisational development programmes for civil society organizations.
- Experience and knowledge of working with civil society.
- Experience in facilitating civil society? government relations.
