KWAHO seeks to recruit 3 Project Officers / 2 Community Development Officers

Kenya Water for Health Organization (KWAHO) is a registered national NGO in Kenya working with various communities in enhancing the health and economic well-being of the low-income and poor communities by facilitating equitable and sustainable access to safe water and sanitation through utilization of cost-effective and environmentally friendly technologies. 
KWAHO seeks to recruit 3 Project Officers to be based in Siaya, Kajiado and Kwale districts and 2 Community Development Officers to be based in Kajiado and Kwale districts. 
  1. Duties and responsibilities for the Project Officer will include;
  1. Provide leadership and general guidance and management of the implementation of the project to ensure that all project results are achieved
  1. Draw work plans in liaison with KWAHO Head office and implement the project according to the proposal/contract
  2. Coordinate the implementation process of the components of the project
  3. Guide and supervise capacity building of target communities
  4. Carry out monitoring and review of the project to ensure quality assurance and outputs
  5. Coordinate preparation of project budget, tracking and management
  6. Coordinate with other project collaborators, address their concerns, respond to information requests, establish and maintain positive work relations with the implementing partners and other players
  7. Ensure competitive procurement of goods and services for the activities of the project
  8. Attend partner meetings and support in promoting the image of the organization
  9. Compile and disseminate periodical project reports to the Project Coordinator, Programmes Officer and the Executive Director
  10. Carry out any other assignments as directed by the Executive Director.
 
Qualifications, Skills and Experience for Project Officer Position:
  • A University degree in any of the following disciplines: Public/Environmental Health or Sciences, or Water Engineering fields from a recognized university
  • At least 3 years experience in project management/coordination in the water and sanitation sector
  • Hands on experience in working with communities.
  • Proven skills and knowledge of capacity building within the NGO sector.
  • Ability and experience in partnership building, networking and collaboration with GOK and others in the sector
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Proficiency in use of various computer packages
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili languages.  Knowledge of the respective local language will be an added advantage.
  1. Duties and responsibilities for the Community Development Officer will include;
  1. Assistant to the Project Officer,
  2. Mobilization of project beneficiaries to include community based organizations (CBOs), Schools and Health Centres in the project areas
  3. Sensitize the target communities on the importance of practicing good hygiene
  4. Organize the target communities to plan, implement, operate and manage Household water treatment and Safe Storage facilities
  5. In consultation with the Project Officer plan, organize and carry out community training workshops
  6. Ensure the active involvement of the project beneficiaries in all stages of the project
  7. Participate in designing, development and application of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials
  8. Enable the target communities in the project areas to access relevant information, skills and knowledge
  9. Prepare monthly project progress reports
  10. Participate in project planning meetings
  11. Perform any other duty as directed by the Project Officer
 
Qualifications, Skills and Experience for Community Development Officer Position:
  • At least a Diploma in Community Development/Public Health or environmental from a recognized institution of higher learning
  • At least 2 years experience in community mobilization in the water and sanitation sector
  • Hands on experience in working with communities.
  • Proven skills and knowledge of capacity building within the NGO sector.
  • Ability and experience in partnership building, networking and collaboration with GOK and others in the sector
  • Good report writing skills
  • Proficiency in use of various computer packages
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili languages.  Knowledge of the respective local language will be an added advantage.
