A Safari Company is looking to fill a Purchasing Manager
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Boutique Purchasing – i.e. stocking lodge and hotel shops in Kenya and around the Indian Ocean, if would involve:
Managing and carrying out all elements of merchandising:
· Sourcing suppliers (where the items are made rather than a marketing arm) and continuously sourcing new ranges from current suppliers.
· Negotiating the best possible rates available.
· Keeping an updated catalogue. All merchandise will be coded and categorised always with a ‘this seasons range’ section to keep us ahead of competition in the following categories:
o Category 1: Stationary - All types of books attractive to the tourist, maps, children's story books with an African or ocean flavour, collector's stamps, writing materials, novels, DVD’s, music CD's of a local nature, postcards, stamps.
o Category 2: Jewellery - with an African flavour, silver, aluminium, brass, semi-precious stones, bone, ceramic, leather, glass, wood, seeds etc. (In top-end places, precious gems)
o Category 3: Handicrafts - Carved items on various woods, other wood products, soapstone, clay, semi-precious stones, brass, glass, bronze, beaded items etc.
o Category 4: Pharmaceuticals & Consumables- essential requirements in the way of medicines and toiletries including sun creams whilst on safari or at the beach, as well as memory discs, camera films, camera batteries, memory cards, confectionery / snack items, Giftwrapped Kenyan alcohol, i.e. Kenya Gold, Kenya Cane, Leleshwa (?).
o Category 5: Fabrics - Safari wear, t-shirts, hats, shoes, fashion wear, swimwear, beach wraps and Batik art.
o Category 6: Leather Items - Kiondos / baskets, photo frames, glass cases, pouffes, tripod stools, keyrings, shoes etc.
o Category 7: Furniture items – stools, poofs, camp chairs, foldable tables,
o Category 8: Games and children’s items – African playing cards, travel board games plus African board games including Kumliki, mbao, beach items i.e. beach balls, sandcastle making kits.
o Category 9: Branded items (mugs, keyrings, T-shirts, Ipod / phone covers, candles etc.)
o Category 10: Packaged goods and gift sets.
· Maintaining or personally organizing the packaging of the items to make sure they are attractive and in line with ADVANTAGE East Africa standards.
· Fumigating items if necessary.
· Packing the items for shipping.
· Managing the payment collection. Organising, negotiating and obtaining payments with suppliers and clients.
· Delivering all items to courier / freight company / the lodges.
ATTRIBUTES:
· It will need to be someone extremely organised
· Efficient
· Enormously honest!!!
· They will not be managed.
· Must have 3 yrs experience as a Purchasing Manager
· Excellent written English as well as spoken
· Resourceful
· Personable
· Well groomed
· Ability to work under pressure
· Age 28 years to 45 years only preferably Women
Salary: NEGOTIABLE: (depending on experience)
