KEMRI/ITM PROGRAM

Program Description: This program is a collaboration between the Kenya Medical
Research Institute and the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Belgium whose
objective is to provide evidence based HIV and STI prevention interventions
targeted at youth and other vulnerable populations in Bondo, Rarieda, Siaya and
Kisumu Districts. The program has a vacancy in the Youth Intervention Project in
Kisumu for a data manager for a study among adolescents living with HIV.
Position:Data Manager (1 Post): MR9
Location:Kisumu with field work in Asembo, Gem and Kisumu
Education:
* EDUCATION:Must possess a Bachelors Degree in computer Science, applied
mathematics or statistics and information technology from a recognized
university. Minimum of 2 years experience in data management is required.
* DESIRABLE QUALITIES
* Ability to design/develop computer databases
* Demonstrated ability in cleaning data and performing data quality assurance
* Demonstrated experience with Access and STATA programming for data
manipulation and analysis.
* Ability to identify and resolve potential or current data problems
* Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with
staff of all cadres.
* Must demonstrate good organizational skills
* Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
* Good problem solving skills
* Awarene of own limitations and will request timely for assistance.
* Field experience with data collection using PDAs is essential.
* Must have excellent ability to use PDAs
Major duties and responsibilities:
Reporting to the study coordinator, the data manager will:
· Undertake a wide range of data processing procedures including
production of reports, ensuring all data are entered routinely within set
timelines and any data queries are followed up promptly.
· Provide feedback to the research coordinator regarding the quality
assurance of data, detected deficiencies and corrective action in the databases.
· Deal with routine problems arising in the course of data handling
· Perform data cleaning
· Warehouse data every evening of data collection and sending to ITM
data focal person
· Support in data analysis-conducting basic descriptive data analysis
· Ensure Questionnaires are programmed into the PDA before field work
starts
· Orients the interviewers on PDAs
· Trouble shoot PDAs
· Perform other duties assigned to them by the study coordinator.
Terms of Employment
Temporary Appointment for between 3 to 6 months period.
Remuneration:Compensation is negotiable within the appropriate grade, based on
the educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The
salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales
