Purpose of the position:
To provide Technical and operational leadership to the Integrated/Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM/CMAM) projects within World Vision Kenya while promoting a culture of effective integrated programming, learning and networking within and outside World Vision Kenya.
In order to successfully do so, the Program Officer- Nutrition must be able to effectively communicate World Vision’s Christian ethos and demonstrate a quality of spiritual life that serves as an example to others.
Major Responsibilities:
- To lead project development, planning and monitoring as well as maintain a line of communication with Support Office(s) (and the donor(s) where applicable), and EARO Technical Advisor, to ensure that all are kept abreast with the progress of the IMAM/CMAM projects in Kenya.
- Ensure that project designs and/ or re- designs are done in accordance with donor guidelines, standards, WV standards and nutrition programming strategies and GoK guidelines while corresponding to community needs and contexts.
- Develop and review Project reports in addition to tracking project spending ensuring that they are aligned to WV policies and reporting guidelines
- Coordinate project monitoring, evaluation, reflection and learning to ensure achievement of project objectives
- Coordinate implementation of nutrition surveys, baselines and assessments including rapid assessments for proposed IMAM/CMAM projects to inform proposal development; maintain coordination with relevant stakeholders to plan for nutrition surveillance and assessments.
- Ensure Quarterly budget reviews are conducted and that all spending is in line with donor guidelines.
- Undertake/ liaise with National Nutrition Coordinator to carry out capacity building for project staff especially to contextualize and implement national IMAM guidelines in WVK operational areas.
- Support timely implementation of processes from assessments to evaluation and ensure compliance with the project cycle
- Ensure that emergency oriented nutrition projects meet or exceed planned outcomes and are implemented in full compliance with generally accepted standards and guidelines.
- Ensure WVK visibility and participation in relevant networks at the County and National levels
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
- Basic degree qualification in Nutrition, public Health, or similar fields. Should be registered with the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute.
- Three years significant demonstrated experience in working/programming on donor funded programs, including providing narrative reports on project objectives
- A minimum of 5 years experience in child nutrition programming at the district, provincial and national levels including Infant and Young Child Feeding programming
- Demonstrated understanding and experience of working with Ministries of Health structures at district, provincial and national levels and networking with other partners such as WFB, UNICEF
- Knowledge of nutrition rapid assessments, surveillance and nutrition surveys. Experience in conducting SMART methodology for nutrition surveys and use of data analysis soft wares
- Experience in support supervision, training and coaching staff in nutrition programming
- A team player, capable of building staff, MoH and community capacity in nutrition projects through training and mentoring
- Good understanding of World Vision relief standards, Sphere standards and MoH standards and guidelines
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
