| Job Announcement: Surveyors/Enumerators (Nairobi, Kenya) 26 January 2011 |
The evaluation will examine whether a series of interventions have an impact on employability of 700 participating young women from Nairobi. The interventions include training in information communication technology (ICT), life skills, and reproductive health. The training will be followed up by internships and job placement services. In addition to the project participants, another 700 young women will serve as a control group for the evaluation.
The Surveyors will be responsible for collecting data through quantitative and qualitative procedures (i.e., surveys, interviews, focus groups) from the 1,400 young women in the study. They will provide information to data entry agents¸ who will in turn provide data files to analysts in the U.S.
The project will last for two years, starting in January 2011 and finishing in December 2012. The position is part-time, with approximately 36 days of work per surveyor in Year 1 (January to December 2011) and 30 days of work per surveyor in Year 2 (January 2012 to December 2012) according to the following schedule:
Year 1: February-March (10 days); June-July (10 days); October-December (16 days)
Year 2: January (6 days); March (6 days); May (6 days); July (6 days); September (6 days)
The candidate should have some experience in data collection on evaluations of projects in Kenya. A university degree in an area such economics, sociology, statistics, education, or health is required; a master’s degree or above is a plus. In addition to these qualifications, having some of the following skills is required:
- Prior experience working with youth;
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative evaluations;
- Ability to follow instructions and collect data accurately;
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting;
- Ability to follow schedules and meet deadlines;
- Strong facility with the English language;
- Excellent oral, writing, and interpersonal skills.
