Women’s Institute for Secondary Education & Research (WISER) is a Kenyan NGO founded in 2006 that has established a strong community partnership in Muhuru Bay where the organization has built a private secondary boarding school for girls that it operates in addition to other community programs focusing on education, health, and economic development.

1. Building Construction
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate effective supervision of skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in construction, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures
- Examine blueprints to assess dimensions of structures, and lay out floor plans using approved equipment
- Select and inspect materials and structural units to ensure conformance with provisions of building code and local ordinance
- Determine sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of structures
- Assign workers to tasks such as: cutting material to size, building concrete forms, and preparing surfaces to apply paint
- Inspect work performed by specialist tradesmen, including ductwork, wiring, and pipe installations, to ensure conformance with specifications
- Install doors, ceilings and apply glazing to windows and doors.
- Ensure construction work adheres to plans, specifications, and work orders
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and other employees
- Follow an agreed programme of works and provide early warning of any deviations
- Account for all materials and justify expenditure on wages on a weekly basis
Requirements
- Diploma in Building Construction or equivalent from a recognized institution plus five years experience.
- Considerable knowledge of building maintenance and construction practices and methods, standard skilled trade operations and repair methods and materials and tools used in landscaping and building work.
- Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers
- Ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings
2. Water Engineering

Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate effective supervision of skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in construction, installation of water mains, valves, service connections, metres, service connections and related accessories.
- Examine blueprints to assess dimensions of structures, and lay out floor pipe work using approved equipment.
- Determine sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of water supply structures
- Inspect work performed by specialist tradesmen, including pipe installations, to ensure conformance with specifications
- Install pipes, storage tanks, water metres and similar fixtures.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and other employees
- Follow an agreed programme of works and provide early warning of any deviations
- Account for all materials and justify expenditure on wages on a weekly basis
Requirements
- Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution plus five years experience.
- Considerable knowledge of the materials, techniques and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, repair, testing and adjusting of potable water and reclaimed water distribution systems
- Familiar with principles of plumbing and water hydraulics
- Skilled in special pipe laying, cutting and other tools and equipment utilized in the work
Contract Details:
- A maximum 90 day contract
- Compensation calculated on performance based remuneration system
