- Provide guidance/support in proper record keeping and reporting of information related to nutrition and to support improved nutrition information/data management in the MCH and nutrition units,
- Train staff in use of MUAC and nutrition screening (e.g. Wt/Ht tools and interpretation of the results)
- Strengthen outreach nutrition activities especially Nutrition Education, follow up and defaulter tracing
- Supervise/monitor feeding activities including community outpatient therapeutic feeding program (OTP) and in patients therapeutic feeding program (TFP in SC) in the hospital and targeted other facilities
- Supervise and set up the community therapeutic care programme; stabilization center and out-patient therapeutic units in the targeted Merlin supported health facilities,
- Support the establishment of supplementary feeding programmes
- Train health workers in management of severely and moderately malnourished children
- Train community nutrition volunteers to be able to screen and refer malnourished children as well as providing appropriate nutrition and health education services
- Ensure that medical and nutritional care are properly delivered to the patients and to follow the nutrition and medical evolution of the patients in health facilities/hospital
- Advise and oversee the feeding of admitted patients within the wards including TB wards
- Participate in the supplementary feeding activities for People Leaving with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA), TB patients as well as other special groups including pregnant women that may be identified and recruited into the program
- Mobilize community participation in public health nutrition activities to ensure the long term ownership and effectiveness of the programme
- Conduct community sensitization campaigns on nutrition including designing of radio spots with appropriate messages on nutrition targeting the community (mainly applicable for Torit and Magwi).
- Conduct appropriate training and capacity building activities for staff and community groups on nutrition topics
- Work closely with logistics to ensure timely supply and delivery of nutrition/food items and other supplies required for nutrition activities,
- Ensure that tools necessary for nutrition program are available,
- Lead/facilitate the process to establish a nutrition demonstration garden,
- Implement any other activities/tasks delegated by Senior Health Coordinator and/or Nutrition Coordinator in conjunction with the hospital/health facility staff
Person Specification
Essential: Qualifications, experience and competences
- Nurse/Midwife with qualification in nutrition
- Experience in community-based management of acute and moderate malnutrition using CMAM approach,
- Experience in conducting training to nutrition/community workers who work for nutrition units to manage SC/TFC, OTP and potentially SFP,
- Experience of recording, collection and analysis of nutritional data
- Excellent leadership and communication skills - excellent written and spoken English
- Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office
- Good interpersonal skills in dealing with colleagues and CHD/MOH staff working in local health facilities,
- Previous experience of working and living in insecure contexts
- Willingness/experience in taking active initiatives to identify and address issues related to nutrition,
- An understanding of and commitment to Merlin’s mission and values
Desirable: Qualifications, experience and competences
- Experience in screening using Wt./Ht. Chart and MUAC and conducting growth monitoring and promotion
- Previous exposure in SMART nutrition survey methodology is an advantage
- Previous experience of working with/in primary health care programme,
- Experience of humanitarian sector work,
- Work experience of any of the remote states/counties of Southern Sudan and willingness to work in remote rural areas,
