A vacancy has arisen at the British High Commission, for aVisits Officer / Political Coordinator.
The job is graded at LEII for which the current salary scale starts at Ksh. 148,000/- per month before deduction of tax.
Where the jobholder is not liable to Kenyan tax the scale will be abated under HM Treasury rules and starts at Ksh. 109,728/- per month to take account of the tax they would have paid.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is an integral part of the Political Section that works to deliver the British Government’s Strategic Objectives in Kenya.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that any applicant be cleared to SC status and willing to undertake DV Security clearance.
The position is open to UK nationals with at least 3 years residence in the past 10 years in the UK, US, Australia, Canada or New Zealand. Candidates must have a traceable history over the last 5 years in the countries named.
The main duties include:
Visits Officer - with responsibility for overseeing and coordinating all in-country visits for Kenya and British Office for Somalia including managing visit programmes, requesting relevant appointments, working with Transport Section on transport schedules, liaising with lead departments in Nairobi and London and coordinating briefing - 50%
Political /Chancery Coordinator: Responsible for ad hoc lobbying and reporting back for London on global issues. Reporting on political/Chancery meetings. Oversight of Chancery budget management and relevant reporting and liaising with partners supported by the Chancery budget. Research for Chancery officers. Coordination with British Council and BHC Chevening committee of Chevening Scholarship Scheme. Management of Chancery work plans to ensure targets are met. Maintenance of political/governance contacts database - 25%
IT, Administration and PA Back-Up/ Cover for IT Support Officer and PA/High Commissioner. General Chancery support and correspondence – 25%
Required skills:
The successful candidate should ideally possess strong administrative, oral and written communication skills, excellent IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office programmes.
S/he should be highly organised, be able to take initiative and to work accurately to meet deadlines, and have an eye for detail.
A willingness to do some out of (core) hour’s work will be necessary- for example meeting visitors at the airport which can fall over weekends and evenings.
