ADVOCACY AND POLICY ANALYST - SRH (DAR ES SALAAM)

Job Objectives

To ensure the project makes sound and evidenced based analytical approaches in policy dialogues with well focused advocacy agenda for raising the profile of SRHR among young people. To harmonize and collate various policy and advocacy related SRH issues for the young people as experienced by various project partners and stakeholders

Reports to Programme Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and work with project team, sub-grantees and stakeholders to produce high quality and rigorous policy analysis with recommendations for changes in policy and practice.

Identify opportunities to influence key political figures and other stakeholders by keeping up to date with policy on all key areas of interest.

Supervise and proVide policy analysis support other SRH-related projects in AMREF to ensure campaigns are well packaged, targeted, evidence based and timely.

Identify and analyze policy related issues that AMREF and partners will work on to develop an advocacy agenda for the project, through evidence generated from the project.

Identify policy research needs and opportunities and develop evidence based advocacy messages and materials, in consultation with programme development and strategic information officer. Liaise and inform key stakeholders and others on a regular basis by writing and disseminating briefings, submissions, articles, parliamentary questions and presentations as necessary.

Represent AMREF on coalitions and facilitate networking, work with existing SRH advocacy forums and allied organizations.

Providing forum for exchange of information and policy initiatives that support national efforts in addressing health 'systems gaps particularly in resource allocation and provision of SRH services for the young people and to include the most vulnerable segments such as young people living with HIV and AIDS and the disabled ones Monitor and evaluate AMREF policy, strategy and campaigns related to SRH activities using a range of quantitative and qualitative methods (surveys, questions, debates etc)

Provide reports for both internal monitoring and for external donors and supporters, including monitoring and evaluation reports. Collaborate with colleagues, particularly the AMREF Communication Officer to disseminate well analyzed and evidence-based policy-related information through meetings, publications, e-bulletins, website and the like.

In collaboration with programme manager, project staff and AMREF theme leaders, identify fund raising opportunities and work with the advocacy team to develop proposals for funding to support policy and advocacy activities

Qualification and Experience:

Masters degree in social sciences or public health or any other related field

An ability to write clear and concise reports; good spoken and written English and Swahili is an advantage

Three (3) years experience in the relevant field.

Proven ability in analytical skills and decision making ability Demonstrated project management skills including financial management and M&E skills

Demonstrated advocacy skills

Demonstrated research skills

Demonstrated knowledge in working with partners. Proven exposure to the national level advocacy for sexual reproductive health rights.

Knowledge of social change management.
